A full-rate pension once you have reached statutory retirement age

Your basic pension will be calculated at the full rate once you have reached statutory retirement age, whatever your combined length of insurance under all schemes, if:

  • You have been declared unfit for work by the medical examiner

  • or you have an officially recognized permanent disability at a rate of at least 50%.

Important :

This program is not available for civil servants.

Early retirement at the full rate

You can claim a full-rate pension at age 55 if you meet the following three criteria:

  • You must have worked with a permanent disability assessed at 50% or more (or, for periods prior to December 31, 2015, you must have had official disabled worker status[1]) ;

  • You must have a certain length of insurance while disabled, all schemes combined;

  • And you must have a certain length of contributions while disabled, all schemes combined.

To learn more about total length of insurance and length of contributions while disabled, please get in touch with your pension schemes

You may be granted an increase in your early retirement pension if you do not have the maximum length of insurance required by your pension scheme. The amount of this increase depends on the number of quarters you earned while disabled.

Important:

If you belong to more than one pension scheme, each of them will apply any increase separately.

Supplementary pensions:

Most of France’s supplementary pension schemes will pay a full-rate pension once you have reached statutory retirement age or if you retire early due to disability. To be eligible, you must meet the criteria determined by your basic scheme.

This applies if you are a salaried worker in industry, business, services, or agriculture, a non-statutory State or local government worker, a craftsperson or merchant, or a farmer.

To learn more, please get in touch with your supplementary pension scheme

Important:

If you work part-time and your employer agrees, you may be eligible to pay voluntary contributions calculated based on a full-time salary. The periods during which you pay voluntary contributions will count toward your pension as full-time employment.

Please get in touch with your pension schemes to determine if you are eligible for this program

[1] This criterion does not apply to the notary clerks’ and employees’ scheme (CRPCEN).

  • Periods during which you receive AAH do not count toward your retirement pension.

  • You will stop receiving your allowance when you reach statutory retirement age. You will need to submit a pension application.

  • Your basic pension will be calculated at the full rate.

Important:

If you have a permanent disability that has been assessed at 80% or above, you are guaranteed a certain income. If your pension is less than your AAH allowance, the Family Benefits Fund (Caisse d’allocations familiales/ CAF) or the Agricultural social mutual fund (Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA) may pay you a supplement.
